LISTSERVS
MAIN SUPPORT LISTSERV

Location:

Contact Person(s):
Listserv Owner and Managers: Carol Villa
and Christiana Humphreys,
info@empowercolorado.com
Directions:
An
email listserv is a group that you join using your email
address. All emails that are sent to the list go to
everyone in the group and then gives an opportunity for
everyone to respond. This is a good place to get
support or to ask questions, look for resources or some
use it just to know they aren't alone in their daily
struggles.
There are several options in a listserv. First you can
get individual emails. This is suggested if you are on
your email daily. The daily digest is suggested for
those that won't be reading their email on a daily basis
or don't want the amount of individual emails that can
come in from the individual emails. There is also a way
to access this via the web.
Additional Information:
You can go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EMPOWER_COLORADO/
to join yourself. The only requirement for membership
is that you are a parent or caregiver of a child with
either mental health issues, social/emotional needs or
at risk for these issues.

Jewish Family Service - educational, informational resource
group for
families that have an adult child with a serious mental illness.
The date
and time of the first meeting are to be determined. JFS serves
people of all ages, races, faiths and incomes in greater Denver.
“The
‘Strength Through Sharing’ program will be for family members of
adults with a chronic mental illness,” said Robyn Loup, JFS
board member and chair of the agency’s Mental Health Task Force.
“Parents who have an adult child with a chronic mental illness
face a daunting challenge in developing coping skills and
finding resources that can maintain and strengthen the family
unit. It’s often difficult to know where to turn, and many
families feel very helpless, disconsolate and alone.”
The group,
facilitated by Marcia Vaziri, MA, JFS therapist, will provide
the opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and
information, help one another access resources, and provide
encouragement and empowerment in an open and supportive setting.
The privacy and confidentiality of participants will be
stringently protected.
JFS is
accepting phone calls from people who would be interested in
participating in the support group. Prospective participants
will first confer with Vaziri as part of an intake procedure to
access their needs and to determine if participation in the
support group would be appropriate for them and their given
situation.
JFS also
welcomes referrals to the group from psychiatrists,
psychologists, social workers and clergy.
“Jewish
Family Service offers a wide array of mental health and
counseling services provided by our skilled therapists. This is
what we call our ‘Circle of Care.’ In some instances, individual
and family counseling may also be beneficial, and we are ready
to provide families with a full range of psychological support,”
said Vaziri.
